Experience...

I have 25+ years of experience in the fitness industry.  I have done it all, from being an Elite Personal Trainer to being the General Manager of large health clubs in the Central Valley.  I have taught classes and given lectures on proper form and technique on machines and free weights, and cardiovascular work-outs.

As an Exercise Therapy Specialist, I pride myself on modifying exercises to meet my student's needs... From the athlete, the elderly, people with disabilities and/or injuries, and the average person who wants to tone and firm, and lose weight.

why i became a personal trainer...

I had to wear braces like Forest Gump when I was a child, to help me walk. I was born with a paralysis similar to that of a stroke victim.  I could no move my left arm away from my side. My left leg in 1/2 of an inch shorter than my right leg.  My disabilities could have happened during my Mother's pregnancy. When she was 3 months pregnant she almost bled to death and at 5 months she fell down a flight of stairs.

During my childhood I endured years of physical therapy and chiropractic care to correct my disabilities. They did little for me, so when I reached college age I started to learn how the human body works.  It became my life's passion to not only help myself but to also help others overcome their disabilities and their obstacles.

I started modifying exercises to help me overcome my disabilities and obstacles. I went from not being able to do a push up to now being able to bench press 360 lbs. My parents and doctors thought it was a miracle. What was once a curse is now a blessing because I have empathy from my life experience for others with their obstacles.

My passion became my profession. I thrive on the challenge of building programs for my students to develop muscles, strength, endurance, flexibility, tone, firm, and lose inches. I include nutritional counseling as part of their program.

The concept of "No Pain, No Gain" is ridiculous to me.  We'll work together to help you overcome your personal obstacles and achieve your goals in a "Smarter, Not Harder" way! Utilizing the science behind body mechanics and ultimate range of motion, along with a lot of laughs and motivation!

When I joined they gym, I has absolutely no interest in personal training. I had been a regular gym member for five years at another gym and felt that personal training was extra money on something I didn't need. I was persuaded and then paired up with Fernando Andersen, who happened to be walking by as I was signing my contract. I have since felt that it was absolutely providential that Fernando walked by at that moment because I truly believe he is the best and most qualified trainer I could have.

To start, Fernando has the best attitude a trainer can have. When I first met him, he was not only friendly, but incredibly outgoing, humorous, and positive. His encouraging and positive attitude help keep me motivated. Whenever I say something is hard, he corrects me and says nothing is "hard", only challenging. Challenges can be overcome. It's all about attitude. I never felt embarrassed at my initial abilities because Fernando was so professional and optimistic.

Because I had been going to a gym regularly, I felt I had a good idea of how to work most gym equipment and felt knowledgeable about what exercises and how many reps I needed to do. I felt this way because I had watched other people at the gym and just copied what they did. Fernando took his time and explained the proper way to set up and use the machines. What an eye opener! I learned that a lot of people misuse equipment because, like me, they had never been shown the proper technique. His understanding of the machines, and which machines best matched my fitness goals, made me feel confident. I felt confident in his expertise, confident that I would not injure myself, and confident that my time at the gym was now the most productive it could be.

In addition to exercises and equipment, Fernando is knowledgeable in nutrition. Soon after I began my personal training, Fernando gave a nutrition seminar. While I'm already a healthy eater, I learned new information. Fernando knows that a healthy body and lifestyle is more important than just exercise alone, and that pairs perfectly with my mentality. Both exercise and nutrition are important to me; Fernando not only understands that, he has made a profession of it. He also has developed a system to help his clients keep track of both their nutrition/eating habits and their exercise routine. He makes it easy to stick to a healthy plan.

Lastly, one of the things I really appreciate about Fernando is his reliability. Not only does he keep his appointment times, but even if it's not my scheduled appointment time, I know that I can ask him a question or clarify a new exercise. If I'm on a machine and he sees me execute incorrect form, he will come over and correct me, reminding me that I could possibly injure myself. He also reminds me to stretch both between sets and after my workout.

Fernando is more than a trainer. He has become a mentor and friend. I am making better use of my time at the gym because of him. He keeps me challenged and motivated. I have seen a difference in my body and my confidence. I hope to work with Fernando for a very long time.

The past 4 months training under Fernando Andersen has opened my eyes to a new healthy way of living. With his help I have changed my way of eating. The results speak for themselves. I have lowered my cholesterol from 180 to 138 LDL. I reduced my body weight from 170 to 156 and back to a 31 inch waist line. No longer take blood pressure meds, I am currently at 120/64. The main change is with my back. When I first started workouts, I was only able to walk and stand until about noon because of the 5 bulging discs. Today I have a regular day being able to last all day at whatever I am doing.

The training has strengthened all parts of my body. At all times Fernando keeps in mind all of my weaknesses and protect my back from further injury. His knowledge of nutrition and proper exercise training really excel. Each time I work out with him he increases my knowledge allowing me to pass on helpful hints to my friends and family.

Results are what is important but having someone you can trust is even more. Thank you for being my trainer and friend.

Fernando is a well trained and certified professional fitness trainer who has worded intensively with me, two to three times a week for the past year. Within this time, Fernando has taken me to a new level of understanding the necessary seps in balancing strength training, cardio workouts, and basic nutrition and at the same time taking into consideration my person health history. He has helped me to develop a regime of exercises to fit my needs and regularly assess my progress and improve my workout based upon health and ability.

With a fitness plan designed for my personal needs, Fernando is always very attentive during workouts, adjusting equipment, modeling, monitoring, and teaching me how to do my exercises with the correct body form. My physical and mental well being has improved greatly.

First and foremost I want to thank you for accepting me as a client for these past few training sessions. I can honestly say that I have learned more from you in our few sessions than I have experienced in numerous session in the past. Working with two previous personal trainers, I never had the feeling of confidence that you gave me.

I really appreciate your knowledge and expertise and that you explain thoroughly as to why and how we do the specific exercises. You are very professional, and pleasant to work with. You listened to my physical limitations regarding my knee and shoulder injuries and successfully modified the exercises and my work out routine to protect and yet work these areas.

The emphasis that you place on properly  stretching specific muscle groups both during the warm up period as well as the work out itself, was new to me and was logical as it promoted proper blood flow to the muscle. I feel better after the work out when I follow your advice.
